Substance abuse has been an issue that has plagued West Virginia for years, but new data released by the West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS) shows that the situation is improving significantly.
In an update released on Wednesday, the DoHS reported that West Virginia saw a 34% decrease in overdose fatalities across the state in the first four months of 2024 compared to the first four months of 2023. This decrease builds on an already significant one between Q1 2023 and Q1 2024.
