Thanks to state Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-69) and local veterinarian Dr. Bill Croushore, House Bill 161 limiting access to illicit xylazine was signed into law by Gov. Josh Shapiro.
In May, the Pennsylvania House and Senate overwhelmingly approved the bill with bipartisan majorities. It was led by prime sponsor Metzgar, with an amendment from Sen. Elder Vogel Jr. (R-47). It criminalizes illicit possession of the drug, but still maintains legal access for veterinarians for use on large animals, according to a press release.
