Arkansas will receive $44.5 million for its portion of a nationwide settlement with the Sackler family and their company, Purdue Pharma — the maker of OxyContin — over their role in the opioid crisis, Attorney General Tim Griffin announced Wednesday.
The $44.5 million Arkansas is set to be paid is a relatively small portion of the roughly $7.4 billion settlement Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family, which previously had a controlling stake in the company, will pay out to victims of opioid abuse and state and local governments.
