Reid Health and Meridian Health Services have joined together to assist pregnant women and new mothers addicted to drugs.
The Nest aims to provide mental health, addictions and medical services to those women, according to a news release. Nest stands for nurturing, empowering, sustaining and thriving.
“The program provides a welcoming and supportive environment where women can go without feeling judged or overlooked,” said Erika Brandesnstein, The Nest’s medical director.
From January to August 2019, there were 543 deliveries at Reid, and 170 of those (31.3%) involved positive drug screens. Substance use disorders, drug overdose deaths and neonatal abstinence syndrome continue to be problematic.
“With Meridian’s expertise in addictions and recovery, including Richmond’s Residential Recovery Center and other maternal treatment programs throughout the state, we found Reid Health to be a great partner with us in providing OB/GYN services for the pregnant mothers here in Richmond,” said Gerry Cyranowski, regional vice president for Meridian.Tags: Addiction Services Harm Reduction NAS Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Opioid Epidemic Programs Recovery Assistance
