Organized groups of professional shoplifters, or “boosters,” steal or fraudulently obtain merchandise that is then sold, or “fenced,” to individuals and retailers through a variety of venues.
“Boosters” are described in court documents as people who steal merchandise, specifically, but not limited to, over-the-counter medication from retail stores. The booster is often given a “shopping list” of desired items. After the booster steals the merchandise, it is most often taken to a warehouse or safehouse. The items are then either repackage and resold back into the main stream supply chain, or they are sold on the underground market.
