This definition implies a loss of control regarding drug use, and the person with a substance use disorder will continue to use a drug despite serious medical and/or social consequences.

Drug diversion is a medical and legal concept involving the illegal movement, adulteration, marketing, or transfer of any legal controlled substance anywhere within the supply chain; from manufacturer to end user.
